How to Practice With a Metronome (Without Getting Frustrated)
Metronomes feel hard because they reveal the truth. Use this approach and you’ll improve timing fast.
Start with subdivisions
- Count quarter notes: 1 2 3 4
- Then eighth notes: 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
- Then sixteenths: 1 e & a
The safe speed-up method
Pick a tempo you can play perfectly. Increase by 2–5 BPM only after 5 clean reps.
Fix the “rushing” problem
Most people rush transitions. Loop only the transition bar, slow it down, and lock it with the click.
Want a complete routine?
Combine metronome work with a daily plan + song loops.
